Casa da Vila

Casa da Vila presents a particular architectural interest through the character of its design and the way it reflects the built heritage of Almodôvar. Located along the National Road 2 – a route recognised as a cultural heritage landmark – the property was found in a fair state of conservation at the beginning of the rehabilitation works, allowing the project to focus primarily on restoring and enhancing the existing elements.

Formerly a family home, Casa da Vila has been converted into a guesthouse intended to accommodate workers from the Neves Corvo Mine and associated companies, as well as visitors attending local fairs, festivities, and outdoor activities such as hunting and cycling.

The intervention sought to safeguard the pre-existing features and materials, preserving the building’s memory while ensuring that its performance met contemporary comfort and technical standards.

Given the relatively good condition of the existing structure, the project prioritised the recovery and maintenance of as many original elements as possible, including the hydraulic mosaic tiles that cover most of the floors, the solid wood flooring, plastered walls, timber structural framework, the interior staircase, and all interior doors and skirting boards in solid wood.

As part of its new function as a guesthouse, the existing rooms in the main building were adapted to include private bathrooms, resulting in a total of seven guest rooms, each with an en-suite facility.
